In Cinemas: Friday, January 22, 2016 — The Fifth Wave, Dirty Grandpa, The Masked Saint, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, The Boy

Earlier this week I took a bit of a look ahead, with an admittedly jaundiced view, of films opening in the next few weeks.

Three of them arrive on Friday. If you want my unvarnished impression of The Fifth Wave, Dirty Grandpa, and The Masked Saint, check this out.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi looks to follow in the footsteps of American Sniper and Lone Survivor, a rah-rah January war picture telling the ostensibly true story of brave men in the American armed forces up against it. But Michael Bay is responsible for this one, so I’d advise anyone to proceed with caution.

And The Boy follows The Conjuring and Annabelle in the creepy-doll-is-possessed-by-some-kind-of-demonic-spirit movie stakes.
