Classified rallies Nova Scotian artists in support of The SeaStar Child and Youth Advocacy Centre

Juno award-winning Canadian rapper Classified has rallied Nova Scotian artists to create awareness for a program supporting children who have experienced violence and abuse. The group came together in late April at The Sonic Temple to produce an acoustic video for Classified’s “Powerless”. The video features an all-star cast of Nova Scotian musicians including David Myles, Joel Plaskett, Rose Cousins, Elijah Will, Neon Dreams and Breagh MacKinnon of Port Cities.

“We did this partnership with the SeaStar Centre to bring awareness to all the great things they are doing to help children who have been abused – all the musicians who came through really made it something special”, says Classified.

“We are humbled by the number of artists in the Nova Scotia music community who have come together for this project and grateful to Classified for shining light on such an important topic”, says Dr. Laura Stymiest, IWK Resident Doctor and coordinator of the project.

The SeaStar Child and Youth Advocacy Centre is a program based at the IWK Health Centre that offers a coordinated response for children and youth who have experienced violence and abuse. Through SeaStar, professionals from law enforcement, child welfare, health care, mental health and the justice system come together. With an integrated, child- and youth-friendly approach to investigation, assessment, and treatment, SeaStar aims to decrease trauma and improve outcomes for children and youth who may have experienced abuse.

“We see the impact that SeaStar has for children and families every day. Together, we can make sure that no child feels ‘powerless’ because of what has happened to them”, says Dr. Amy Ornstein, Medical Director of the IWK’s Suspected Trauma and Abuse Response Team.

“Powerless” will be featured on Classified’s upcoming EP “Tomorrow Could Be…” to be released June 29th on his label, Half Life Records. For more information head to http://classifiedofficial.com
