The Friday Night Soundtrack is unavailable this week (Jeff was off gallivanting in the T-Dot last weekend, so he’s still unwinding from his trip to see Muse), so I thought it would be a good time to share with out some of the new tracks I’ve been digging recently. So sit back, cuddle up with your coffee (or significant other [it’s ok if Coffee is that significant other, I understand]) and listen away. Heeeeeeere We Go!
1. “Miracle Mile” – Cold War Kids
This is a tune I’ve been loving on for a couple of months now, it’s a great hook-laden slice of So-Cal pop-rock. It leads off their recently unleashed album Dear Miss Lonelyhearts. If you dig this, then go track down their breakout disc Cowards and Robbers.
2. <<Unknown>> – Kanye West
That’s right, Mr. Kanye “Kardashian” West is back and all there is to go on, is a simple play button on his website. Click on it, and you’ll be treated to a new track, it’s interesting and showcases that he is returning to pre-808 & Heartbreaks form. I’m looking forward to this disc a great deal.
3. “Thirst” – City and Colour
Say what you will about Dallas Green, personally I think he’s a safe bet with each new release (and subsequent tour), and as he progresses down the road on his solo career, his sound is opening up and moving away from a primarily folk feel into something more rock based (and no he’s not reverting to Alexisonfire territory). Another album I’m highly anticipating.
4. “Sacrilege” – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I was late to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs party, not really getting the appeal until about a year and a half ago when it just seemed to click, and I was ready to embrace Karen O’s brand of gritty rock n roll. “Sacrilege” is the first release from the forthcoming Mosquito (out April 16th). If the album holds up as well as this single, then it should be a stellar effort.
5. “Entertainment” – Phoenix
Phoenix has returned with another album loaded with their brand of electro-pop ear candy and “Entertainment” continues along the path which Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix blazed in 2009.
6. “Believers” – American Authors
A track that caught my ear via XM Radio, and quickly became an ear worm that bounced around my head for quite some time. Catchy tune, I need to dig further to see what their other tunes sound like now.
7. “High School Lover” – Cayucas
What do you mean this isn’t Beck?
8.”Someone Else’s Girl” – The Olms
Pete Yorn’s new project / collaboration with J.D. King sounds like a familiar throwback, as it feels clearly like a Pete Yorn project which would be a perfect fit for AM radio of the 60’s and 70’s. Excited by Yorn’s new work.
And there you have it, another edition of 8-Tracks, while it’s not a new Friday Night Soundtrack I hope you dug the new tunes. Have a great weekend!
