30 Day Facebook Song Challenge :: Day 6 :: A Song that Reminds You of Somewhere :: “Life on a Chain” – Pete Yorn

I tend to associate songs with most major events in my life, good, bad or otherwise, events unknowingly get tagged by the soundtrack of the moment. This has been the hardest choice thus far, but I think I made a good choice in “Life onaChain”, as itwasonthe first album I reviewed for the Coast.

“Life on a Chain” was a song I heard in passing before heading to the train station on my way to Montreal, but didn’t realize that it would be the start of my freelance writing. The week I spent in Montreal, I saw Dave Matthews for the first time, along with Radiohead and the Warped Tour but on my way home I found “Life on a Chain” was stuck in my head. When I got back to Halifax, I shot an email to the Coast to find out how I could start writing freelance in the city, I was invited to come in and pick up an album and write a review to see how things went. That album was Musicforthemorningafter by Pete Yorn, and the lead single was “Life on a Chain” and it’s almost been 10 years since I went in to pick up the album. “Life on a Chain” reminds me of the long 20 hour trek home to Halifax from Montreal, so it reminds me of Montreal, the provinces of NB and NS.
