Located 10 km north of Antigonish along Hwy 337, Boyd’s Seafood Gallery is a little off the beaten path. There are very few roads in Nova Scotia that I haven’t traveled, but this scenic drive along Saint George’s Bay was one of them.
For anyone looking to enjoy deep fried seafood among lobster traps and fishing boats (and, let’s be honest, this should be the majority of people in Nova Scotia), you really can’t do much better than to head out to Cribbon’s Point Wharf. Boyd’s large patio area offers visitors a terrific view of the Northumberland Strait while you enjoy your seafood.
Gillian and I went with my mother and grandmother. The three of them all ordered the chowder ($7.50/cup and $10.75/bowl). I’m being careful not to chowder myself out as we try Taste of Nova Scotia’s Chowder Trail so I opted for the $10 fish burger dinner (the chowder was the only gluten-free option for Gillian). It was a large piece of breaded haddock on a bun served with tartar sauce and fries. It was pretty standard for what I expect from a good fish burger and well-priced. I did try the chowder, as well, and will be happy to order it next time we’re here.
When you come, plan for a leisurely lunch so you can enjoy the view.
