Shiretown Brewery – Charlo, NB

“One of our slogans is Shiretown beer, taking a town to a time when new beginnings truly meant new beginnings.” – Derek Leslie

Shiretown Beer is a microbrewery located in Charlo, New Brunswick. They have two regular listings, and a wide variety of one-off and seasonal beer (see below). Derek Leslie and Tim Donahue started the brewery in 2011 after Derek returned home from working in Western Canada. While away, Derek trained with Bob Baxter from Yukon Brewing.

I had a chance to chat with Derek in October 2013. His inspiration and motivation for Shiretown go far beyond a love of making great beer. Derek explained how heavily hit his hometown had been during the economic downfall.

“We’ve lost our mill, power plants, chemical plants, kinda lost everything. Shiretown, we’re a small new business in this region and we want to make, we want to play our role in kinda recreating some of the economic upturn.” – Derek Leslie

Shiretown is located on the same property as Herron’s Nest Cottages and an on-site pub. Between the cozy cottages, local craft beer, and stunning views, we expect you’ll want to stick around for more than the beer. Stop into the brewery Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm and pick up a few bottles, or find their beer at close to 40 ANBL locations.
