There are just so many good reasons to buy local this holiday season. And many small local businesses are offering some great deals this weekend, so it’s even easier to keep your money right here.
We’ve rounded up a list of locally owned Nova Scotia businesses who are holding a Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, or Cyber Monday sale. We’ll keep adding to this as we discover more, so check back later.
Made in the Maritimes
Locations in The Hydrostone and Sunnyside Mall
Our Home & Garden sponsors at Made in the Maritimes are holding Black Friday and Small Business Saturday sales in both of their locations. They’ll be offering 25% off jewelry on Friday only, and Saturday will be TAX-FREE! It’s the only tax-free day they have all year, so head to Bedford or the Hydrostone with your shopping lists ready.
1593 Argyle Street in Halifax
Neptune has a fantastic deal on offer for Friday only, and it’s their best sale of the entire year. 40% off A/B seating (adult pricing) for select 2020 shows, including The Last Five Years, Controlled Damage, Calendar Girls, Billy Elliot the Musical, Ghost Light, Terzettto, Rachel Beck, and Zaniac Comedy Show. But don’t forget, this deal is only available on Black Friday. There’s more info here.
They’ve also got 15% off all spring and winter classes, drop-in passes, and March Break camps for the Neptune Theatre School, from Friday through Monday. As a bonus, tickets to the Neptune Theatre School YPCo production of The Hobbit are only $15 each during the sale.
1215 Lower Water Street in Halifax
Our friends at Discovery Centre are going tax-free in their Discovery Shop on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, on absolutely everything with the exception of Lego. That includes those fun toys on the Wishlist by ORB. And this isn’t a Black Friday sale, but still an offer worth mentioning: they’re including an adorable bear stuffie with membership purchases, while quantities last.
It’s the annual holiday sale at Adolie, with 25% off nearly everything in the Etsy shop though Dec 1st, and free shipping. That includes these sweet crystal mini studs on the Wishlist.
Duckish is offering 20% off online purchases through Dec 4th. Even better: for each product purchased during the sale, one will be donated to the Halifax Shoebox Project, creating gift boxes to support women in need.
On Black Friday, get $10 off all of East Coast Box’s pre-curated Christmas gift boxes (Salty Seas, East Coast Christmas and Seas & Greetings) in their online shop, with the coupon code FRIDAYSALE. And on Cyber Monday, buy two of their rocks glasses and get one free – use code CHEERS.
Élana has a sale running in her online shop until Dec 4th, with 30% off when you buy 3 or more of her art prints (excludes sales items, calendars and tote bags). Use the coupon code 3FOR30 at checkout.
2011 Brunswick Street, Halifax
Inkwell says this is their BIGGEST SALE EVER, so it must be! From Nov 29th-Dec 2nd, spend $60 and save $10, spend $100 and save $20, or spend $200 and save $50. The sale is based on the total of your purchases before tax, on both in-store and online purchases, but if you’re using their online shop, you’ll need these coupon codes: BFCM10, BFCM20 or BFCM50. One code per purchase.
And please consider shopping at Inkwell on Giving Tuesday (Dec 3rd), when a percentage of their sales for that day will be donated to the Nova Scotia division of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Katelyn is offering 20% off absolutely everything in her Etsy shop, BirchBliss, for this entire week. Her “calming and earthy” art prints and paintings, like this one on the Wishlist, are lovely and very giftable.
2594 Agricola Street in Halifax
If you spotted that cozy alpaca/merino wool stole on the Local Wishlist, you’ll be happy to know that Kreative Knits is having a sale Friday through Monday. The discount is 10% off all purchases, 20% off purchases totaling $100 or more, or 30% off purchases totaling $150 or more.
Moongirl’s Tamara Sharkey is one of our favourite new discoveries, and you’ll find two of her prints on the Wishlist, including The Beekeeper (which really should have been in our Birds and Bees post). Everything in her Etsy shop is 20% off from Nov 26th–Dec 4th.
Petite Riviere is holding a Black Friday event! They’ll be hosting a free Black Friday sampling from 5-7pm with light nibbles. Customers will have the opportunity to sample wines from their Red Wine Case Special and Holiday Case Sale. And of course it’s the perfect excuse to visit their beautiful vineyard. Their vineyard tour and wine tasting is on the Local Wishlist, so you can gift that experience, along with some vino.
Don’t you love the Cape Breton Heritage and Acadian Deportation Cross prints Saltwreck has on the Wishlist this year? Every one of their prints is on sale right now for Cyber Week, with 20% off in their online shop through Dec 2nd. No promo codes necessary.

Starting on Black Friday and running through December 14th, when someone spends $60 or more in Tidal Salt’s online shop, they’ll receive an exclusive “Lump O’ Coal” (a 10g jar of Black Rocks lava salt). No codes necessary, not available if combined with other offers.
The Trainyard General Store
