The Local Wishlist

The Local Wishlist first launched in 2012. We wanted to make it fun and easy to find locally made gifts, as well as gifts from independently owned stores during the holiday shopping season. Growing up, the arrival of big box store catalogues signalled the start of our holiday season. We would dog-ear the pages, picking out gifts for ourselves and for everyone else on our shopping list.

In 2011, we tried to do all our shopping from local producers and from locally owned businesses. We found it took a lot of running around just to discover what was available. We wanted to make it easy and exciting to find local gift inspiration from across the province in one place.

And so, in 2012, The Local Wishlist was born, a one-stop-shop for Nova Scotians looking to connect with locally made gift ideas for everyone on their list. Last year, The Local Wishlist had more than 77,000 hits and over 1,600 social media shares. It helped connect small businesses from across Nova Scotia with local loving shoppers. We loved hearing about our readers’ favourite finds, and hearing tales of new clients from participating local businesses.

We are currently working on our third annual Local Wishlist, but we need your help! We are seeking sponsors and local gift ideas to fill the pages of our buy-local online catalogue. Our call for gift submissions is now open. We’ll be accepting submissions until November 1st.

We are currently speaking to a number of potential sponsors for the 2014 Local Wishlist. If you would like to receive a copy of our remaining sponsor opportunities, please email localtravelerns@gmail.com.
