It was cold brewed coffee, not beer, that led us to the Growler Garage. We had read about Northern Bayou online, a new-ish Vermont business that’s been making a name for their cold brewed coffee. You can’t visit Northern Bayou, so we went on the hunt for a place to pick some up for the road.
That’s how we discovered The Growler Garage.
The Growler Garage is Vermont’s first craft beer filling station with a full service bar. They have a rotating selection of 21 taps to drink on-site or fill-and-go. Many of those beer are brewed in-state, but they also offer other national and international craft selections.
Like the name suggests, it looks a lot like a garage. There are bracket glass and metal windows, and the beer bottles, growlers, and merch are stored on the same metal shelving you’d expect in a car repair shop. They’ve added plush black chairs and a ping pong table, too, the kind of comforts to make you want to hang out for awhile.
At the Growler Garage, you can get a 1/2 or 1/4 gallon fill of any beer on tap. If “drink-in” is more your thing, you can get a sample tray of any four fills, or order by the pint.
And of course we picked up what we came for, two bottles of Northern Bayou cold brew coffee, one regular and one hopped.
