This week we’ve chosen to highlight some gift ideas for anyone inspired by living near the ocean – which is probably most, if not all Nova Scotians. We know how lucky we are to be so close to the sea, and to smell the salt air when the wind is just right. So maybe this list is for all of us.
One of Inkwell’s original letterpress prints, this is a creative nod to our long-standing tourism motto. And a much prettier alternative to putting a license plate on your wall, don’t you think?
The quote on this pendant says “In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans”. It’s made from enameled copper, by Halifax’s Aflame Creations.
If home is where your anchor drops, you’ll appreciate the sentiment in this tea towel. It’s made of 100% ring-spun flour sack cotton in Mahone Bay.
4 & 5. Mini Wave Necklace and Ring
These pieces are from Bridget Turner Jewellery in Lawrencetown Beach, and Bridget, you might not be surprised to learn, is an avid surfer. Her love of ocean waves is reflected in her work.
A gift assortment of some of Nova Scotia Fisherman’s most popular natural items, made with local ingredients like Atlantic Sea Kelp – a gift from the sea, harvested from the Bay of Fundy.
The marbled water effect on this travel pouch is created by stonewashing during the dyeing process, and each pouch is different. It’s from Halifax Paper Hearts.
8. The Schooner
Living close to the ocean means we’ve all spotted a schooner or two sailing past – this print from Halifax’s Paper & Wings captures that “magical experience”.
Show your love of the sea without a permanent commitment! Jill+Jack Paper has packs of temporary anchor tattoos for both city and province.
We love the lobster motif, and you’ll definitely find it on a few Wishlist products this year. This screen-printed pillow is a fairly subtle way to share the lobster love. Made in Bedford and available at the Designer Craft Shop.
Cobalt blue sea glass accents a sterling silver anchor on this pendant from Dartmouth’s Sea Glass Designs, symbolizing “strength, stability and the sea”.
This print from folk artist Shelagh Duffett perfectly captures the dream of living by the seaside. Check out Shelagh’s Etsy shop for more charming ocean views.
Colette Samson of Image Glass Art created this stunning accent piece out of fused glass, that suggests dolphins and waves. An impressive gift for any ocean lover.
15. Nautical Decor
Buoys, paddles and lobster rope add a seaside cottage feel to the most urban home. These brightly painted decorative accents are from Fundy Treasures in Joggins.
These are just a handful of the hundreds of local gift ideas available in this year’s Local Wishlist. Head to the full list and start browsing!
