14 really cool gift ideas that were made in Nova Scotia

A sneak peek of The Local Wishlist, our 6th annual buy-local gift guide that’s filled with gift ideas that are made by or sold at independently owned businesses in Nova Scotia.  The Local Wishlist is curated from hundreds of gift submissions from across Nova Scotia. It’s free for local businesses to apply thanks to some amazing local businesses and organizations who sponsor the project.

The links on this page will take you off our site to the sites of the artists featured or one of their local online retailers. Browse the full list, filled with hundreds of Nova Scotia gift ideas, HERE.

6. Picture Perfect Tour:

This gift idea has also been tested in my house. We gave my dad a certificate for the Historic Halifax tour  from Picture Perfect Tours two years ago. Not only did he learn a number of new photography tricks, he learned a lot about historic Halifax, too. He’s still talking about it, so next time I give this gift I’m getting one for myself at the same time. Gift certificates are available in any amount and can be ordered with the click of a button.

7. Die-Cut Dog and Cat calendars:

Calendars are one of those somewhat mandatory gifts in my house, rarely one I get excited about, but I’m already pumped about getting and giving these die-cut dog and cat calendars from Design Corner. They’re handmade in Nova Scotia and come in a ton of different designs, not just for those like me who are obsessed with animal friends.  As you tuck the current month in behind, the scene changes at the top. Your calendar will never look the same during the whole year!

You can pick these up online here.

8. Catnip Pizza Cat Toy

9. Bay of Fundy Stone Guitar Pick

These were one of the most popular items on our 2016 Local Wishlist. They sold out a week after we launched the guide.  They’re handmade by Fundy Treasures from quality agate and jasper found along the shores of the famous Bay of Fundy, home of the world’s highest tides. It’s also home to some of the world’s most beautiful agate, Nova Scotia’s official gemstone. They come with a leather pouch locally handcrafted in Nova Scotia. No two picks are alike making them a unique gift for the guitar lover in your life!

If you want to get your hands on one this year, I suggest ordering early. You can place orders online.
