Last Minute Local Gifts You Can Still Get

It’s not too late to pick up a great local gift! The gifts below are made in Nova Scotia or available from an independently owned Nova Scotia business and are still available. Many of these can be purchased right up until December 24.

I’ve highlighted a few below, with a full list at the bottom! These are curated from The Local Wishlist, the buy-local holiday gift guide to Nova Scotia, which features more than 400 great gift ideas made in Nova Scotia.

Note: These items are going quickly in many cases so you may want to give a call first to make sure the item you’d like is still in-store.

Hope Ring

1. The Hope Collection:
One of my favourites of the season. These pieces are hand cast by the ultra talented Lynda Constantine who makes her creations in Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia. This collection signifies the setting moon and rising sun. No matter what our circumstances are today, we have the hope and promise that comes with the dawning of a new day. This is a beautiful collection, that’s extra special for those of us who have experienced some extra trials over the past years.

Curated and custom gift boxes

2. A Bennett’s Box: $65.00+
The original Bennett’s Box featured on The Local Wishlist was a popular gift – it’s now sold out, but this new local biz offering custom and curate boxes has many more ready to gift options ready to go for last minute shoppers. Like the Primrose box (above), bursting with beautiful local treats, already boxed and wrapped with a bow.

3. Gift Cards (that don’t suck)
I purchased White Point Gift Certificates for a few of the people on my gift list last year. It’s one of my favourite places in the province, and I love the idea of giving an experience. Wrap up a White Point gift Card HERE, or check out the Experience section of The Local Wishlist to find the perfect giftable local experience for someone on your list. Most of these gifts are available right up to December 24!

For those making fun New Year’s resolutions (or know others who are), this is a great fitness activity to try in 2017. Great for dog lovers and those seeking a new adventure that will keep them and their canine healthy and fit in 2017. Wine Tour/Beer Bus Gift Certificates

6. Wine and Beer Tours:
I have been on a number of wine tours (and one beer tour) with Grape Escapes and I am constantly recommending them. This is a really fun way to explore Nova Scotia’s exploding craft beer and wine scenes. You’ll learn a lot, and you’ll have a lot of fun trapsing through core winery regions and craft beer hot spots in our province. Gift certificates are available in any denomination, and the recipient can put it towards any tour of their choice.

PJ Salvage Pajamas

7. PJ Salvage Pyjamas: $100.00
It’s a tradition in my family to give pyjamas on Christmas Eve, so that may have something to do with how smitten I am with these PJ Salvage PJs from Take It Outside. They just got a final shipment for the holidays and there are lots of styles to choose from. Give the gift of cozy!

I’m specifically mentioning the gift boxes from The Shelf at The Seaport Farmers’ Market because they have a number of themed options that are filled with local treats already boxed and ready-to-give, but it’s not the only great thing you’ll find at the market. The Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market is open right up until Christmas Eve. I was there picking up gifts a few times mid week last week, and there’s lots to choose from, plus you can put together one heck of a great local stocking there.

Flying Colours

11. Flying Colours: $9.99
I always have a lot of bird lovers on my list. Is that just me? In this charming artistic interpretation about birds, Sarah Jane invites us to re-discover backyard birds through her eyes. Her poems and paintings identify birds by colour and unique traits. Each bird has a dedicated full-page oil painting. This is a beautiful book, great as a coffee table addition or for the bird lover in your life. Her retail locations should be well stocked, but give a call before you go.
