Le Caveau Restaurant – Grand Pré, NS

Petite Riviere Winery

After touring nine wineries during our honeymoon in the  Annapolis Valley, and recounting the story to friends and family, one of the most common questions we heard was, “Did you eat at Le Caveau?” So, naturally, on our next trip to Annapolis Valley, it was our first stop.

Le Caveau Restaurant - Outside Patio

Le Caveau is the resident restaurant at Grand Pre Wineries (@grandprewines).  It is a breathtakingly beautiful place to grab a bite, especially if you are fortunate enough to get a seat on their terrace.   Set with large, vine-draped trellises and oversized fancy picnic tables, you get the sense that you’ve stumbled into a fairy tale or a Mediterranean villa.

Le Caveau Restaurant - L'acadie BlancWe picked a great night to visit.  Each Thursday in July and August, Le Caveau hosts a Martinis, Mojitos and Tapas night.  It is exactly what it sounds like, affordable and tasty food and drinks, with some live music to set the mood.

Le Caveau - Martini Mojito Tapas Nights

Le Caveau has created a separate tapas list for their Thursday night soirée.  Prices range from $5 – $7 and include items like baked potato (Caveau style), Blue Cheese Cremolos, and some tasty looking sliders.  They also have a special drink menu, which includes discounted martinis ($8 rather than $10), and a range of Mojitos including flavours like grapefruit and cucumber.

For drinks, I opted for the Coconut Mojito and Drew revisited a L’Acadie Blanc that he sampled on our last trip to Grand Pre Wineries.  The coconut was not at all what I had expected (in a good way).  It was light and fruity with just a touch of coconut at the end to make me truly feel like I was on vacation.

Le Caveau Restaurant - Food

We chose bacon wrapped dates and free range chicken wings in a red wine sauce (the only two gluten free menu options).   For the amount of food you receive, the prices were great, and the food was enough to tempt us to return to try the regular menu in the future.

All in all, Le Caveau was a great start to our trip, and we aren’t the only ones who think so.  Le Caveau has been named the establishment of the year by the Nova Scotia Association of Chefs and Cooks, the best restaurant of 2009 by Taste of Nova Scotia, and one of the 20 best winery restaurants in the world by Wine Access Magazine.
