Breadmaker Brown Bread
This, rich, fluffy bread is a Nova Scotia tradition. Now updated for the breadmaker!
Servings: 1 2lb. Loaf
Author: Cristina
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 4 cups flour
  • 3 tsp yeast
Instructions
  1. In your breadmaker pan, add the water, butter, salt, molasses, oatmeal and flour, in that order. Do not mix!
  2. Make a well in the flour and add the yeast, to keep it seperate from the water.
  3. Place in your breadmaker, set to 'medium' darkness, and '2 lb. loaf' settings.
  4. Wait until it's done! It was about 3.5 hours for my breadmaker.
  5. Remove from the breadmaker when done, and let it sit in the pan for 5 minutes. Then remove. If you leave it in the pan, it will get too moist on the outside of the loaf.
  6. Wait at least another 5 minutes so it will set before you cut yourself a giant slice.
