Week 1

Banner - Lunch of the Week

Hi Gang!

Today I’m introducing a new series to the blog, Lunch of the Week!

Let’s face it. Lunch is hard. Especially when you have food allergies. While everyone else might pile into cars and drop by McDonalds for lunch, or your work has (for good reason) forbidden peanut butter sandwiches, or you’ve gone through a phase of trying all the Michelena’s and other assorted brands of garbage microwaveable foods thinking, hoping, that maybe, just maybe this would be the one that will be delicious (none of them), lunch can be a challenge. Especially of the ‘grab and go’ variety. And leftovers, while delicious, aren’t always an option. If you’ve got kids with food allergies, the stress of ‘what the hell are we going to eat?’ can be even worse.

Well fear not, because I’m adding a Friday Lunch series to the site! Once a week, I’ll be posting a lunch from the week on the blog. Nightshade free, of course! These are going to be Mr. Nomato’s lunches, so I can guarantee they will make you full (because if he’s full, everyone’s full). I’ll make sure to specify anything I make ahead of time, any tips for the food I’ve included, brands used, etc., in order to help you have an easy, nutritious, and most importantly DELICIOUS lunch!

So without further ado, here’s the Lunch of the Week!

Lunch of the Week 1 - I Say Nomato Nightshade Free Food Blog

Snack:
Baby carrots dipped in Sabra brand Classic Hummus

Lunch:
Original Mini Babybel cheese and broccoli florets (dip in any leftover hummus from snack)
Lunch wrap:
Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise (only Nightshade free in the States, sorry Canadians)
– Sara Lee Hardwood Smoked Turkey Breast (NIGHTSHADE FREE DELI MEAT SAY WHAAAAT – found at Walmart of all places)
– Lettuce
Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar
– flour tortilla
Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Shake (goes in thermos):
– 1/2 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
– 1/2 banana
– 1 tbsp PB2

– Silk brand unsweetened vanilla soy milk

Dessert
Fage 0% Greek Yogurt topped with frozen blueberries and fresh cantaloupe, drizzled with honey and sprinkled with Carrington Farms Flax Chia Blend.

This lunch is SO delicious! I was able to throw everything together while making dinner the night before. By cutting up the broccoli and cantaloupe as soon as I got home from the grocery store, I was able to save myself a lot of prep time. The shake is made in less than a minute with our supremely portable Magic Bullet.

Well, this has been lunch of the week! What are you favourite lunches? Any tips or recommendations? Let me know what you think!
