FIFA World Cup Tour

In the weeks leading up to the kick-off of the World Cup, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour rolled into Halifax, providing throngs of happy Haligonians the opportunity to get their picture snapped with the coveted World Cup trophy.   Smack dab in the middle of all of the football action was a concert stage on which local favourites Wintersleep were tapped to perform.

Having missed their recent Wishing Moon shows in Halifax, it was a great opportunity to get out and catch the band perform in this unusual setup.   There was a line of folks that snaked out of the World Cup trophy tent who had their afternoon soundtrack provided by Paul, Tim, Loel, Jon and Chris, who brought a stacked set of gems that spanned the entire Wintersleep catalogue.

There was a core group of fans who congregated in front of the stage well before the set began, who were lucky to catch a full Wintersleep set unimpeded.   It wasn’t just a fan base that would have been in attendance down the road at the Marquee; instead, this was a chance to expose the next generation to this Halifax institution.   Personally, I brought my oldest along with me, and we rocked out on the barrier, while a fellow dad brought his daughter to the show, even having an opportunity to introduce her to Paul Murphy and Jon Samuel, who were milling about before the show.

It was an amazing afternoon on the Soccer Pitch in Clayton Park, even if we didn’t get a picture with the iconic World Cup trophy.   We spent it hanging out on the barrier, taking in one of the best bands in Halifax performing a litany of their best songs.  Memories were certainly made with the music.   You can bet that if Wintersleep is playing an all-ages show in the region, we will be there again.   Until the next one!
