Valley was another of the big surprises at Sommo Festival. Their brand of energetic pop-infused indie-rock packed them in at the Nova 7 stage tent. This was one of the bands on the bill that is enjoying a bit of a glow-up with the success of “Bass Player’s Brother” and will be touring the country as the supporting act for the upcoming Beaches tour. The one unexpected thing was that the band gave off the same vibes as the Arkells in their early days, complete with Rob Laska bringing the Max Kerman energy on stage. This is a band to watch, as they are poised to continue their upward ascent.
The set on Saturday afternoon in PEI was electric, with the band bringing that high upbeat energy and engaging the room full of adoring patrons. The set was loaded with ear candy, including “Bass Player’s Brother”, “There’s Still Light in the House”, and “When You Know Someone”, and Valley included a great cover of the MGMT classic “Kids”. The set definitely whet the palates of many of those in attendance, who surely would be catching The Beaches on their East Coast swing, this photographer included.
