At this rate, The Beaches should buy a property in the Maritimes. Jordan, Kylie, Leandre and Eliza not only played Sommo Festival this year, but the band also returned to play both the New Glasgow Jubilee in Nova Scotia, and Area 506 in New Brunswick. Now, as we enter the final couple of weeks of 2024, it’s safe to say that it has been a banner year for these rock n’ rollers, having released their independent album Blame My Ex  late in 2023, and it blowing up for the duration of 2024. The Beaches were ubiquitous and that’s by no means a slight, the band has long been a fixture on Maritime stages, and you sometimes forget that they are not from here.

Even before the ladies hit the stage for their mainstage performance ahead of Greta Van Fleet, this writer had the pleasure to meet a father-daughter duo who were in attendance to mark their 7th Beaches show

in less than 2 years, with the PEI performances bookending the list (which included the Paris Olympics?!). While I was down in the photo pits getting ready to catch my 6th show, my daughter was out in the crowd pumped to see The Beaches for the very first time in person.

The band made great use of the massive stage and catwalk, with Leandra spending a fair amount of time out by the crowd, and showed off a little yoga work while out there. The set was loaded with their growing catalogue of hits including “T-Shirt” , “Grow Up Tomorrow”, the prerequisite “Blame Brett”, but while the

band didn’t delve deep into its earlier works, they focused squarely on their 2023 album, and the latest single “Jocelyn”. It was a great showcase of a band continuing to write their story, and showing that while major label support may be nice, it’s certainly not a necessity, as their star continues to rise at a meteoric pace.

While we await their next East Coast visit, we can certainly comfort ourselves with their dominance of both top 40 and alt. rock radio in these parts. It was a fantastic performance at one of the crown jewels of the Maritime music scene, until next time!
