It was an exciting night last Thursday in the Scotiabank Centre, as the venue was once again playing host to the East Coast Music Awards (the first time since 2018). Along with the awards show comes the red carpet. It was a cavalcade of performers parading into the venue, stopping to chat with Katie Kelly’s mom, en route to the pack of photographers who were ready to snap the well-dressed folks coming into the venue.

For first-timers, it can certainly be a bit awkward standing in front of a group of photographers to have your picture snapped. In talking to a musician a couple days afterwards, I joked that there really should be a box of props for people to pull from to ease the tension a bit and liven things up.
On this night, there were some acts who stopped, posed, and continued on into the room in short order, but there were acts who came through ready to joke and have a good time. Props to both Shanii22 and Quake Matthews for putting on a show for the photogs with their collection of 5-second poses.
It was also a night for artists to share with their families, young and old alike. Natalie McMaster was accompanied by her daughter (who would also share the stage with her mother later in the show). Jenn Grant and Daniel Ledwell brought along their 2 adorable kids who livened up the carpet with their toddler energy and speed. Ian and Brian from Rawlins Cross brought their kids along as well. Ian’s daughter was sporting the coolest jean jacket, it was adorned with a myriad of lanyards and passes from past Rawlins Cross tours. Classified brought out the Boyd clan for this exciting night, as well as his proud parents.

Just under the wire was Rich Aucoin, who was the last artist to make a red carpet appearance (to the delight of the remaining folks on the carpet). Then it was time to get ready for the show to begin.
