Braden Lam Releases His Sophomore EP – Driftwood People

For Immediate Release

(September 14, 2018, Halifax, NS) Braden Lam, folk singer-songwriter, had to lose his place in the world before he could find it. His sophomore EP Driftwood People, available on September 14, 2018, is born from life lessons learned on the road.

Delivered in Braden’s refreshing and catchy folk-pop style, the songs are anthemic realizations about navigating relationships, social disconnect, faith, and love. “After moving across the country three times in one year, I had gained a false sense of connection with the world and myself,” confesses Braden. “It was like standing against the wall at a party and watching from the outside. I sought the isolation, but then regretted the loneliness and lack of community.”

The title track of the album stems from the term Driftwood used by the Mi’kmaq to refer to early colonizers known for their disruptive interactions as they drifted through various communities. “To me, Driftwood People is a message of reconciliation with the relationships in my life. It’s also an acknowledgment of the privilege I have, the unceded land I am grateful to be on, and a reminder to take nothing for granted.”

Looking ahead to this Fall 2018, Braden will be promoting the new album with a full band tour across Atlantic Canada. His backing band, The Driftwood People, consists of Brett Chivari (drums), Nick Pothier (bass, vocals), and Jonathan MacKenzie (keys). The official Halifax release party is at The Carleton on October 4th.
