Much Anticipated Albums Of 2015

We’ve taken the time to reflect on what a year it had been in 2014. We had the pleasure to tear apart and enjoy each and every album we could get our feisty hands on, and compiled up all of our favourites. And after going from album to album, through multiple spins, we are ready to do it all over again, as we look forward to the promising year in music that 2015 will bring.

Many of these albums, that we’re eagerly awaiting, are either from upcoming releases that have been recently announced, or artists that have hinted that they’ll be releasing an album in the upcoming year. If we’ve heard that an artist has just released a single, or that word has gone out that they are currently in the studio, it’s a pretty safe bet that they’ll be releasing new material this year.

And by no means are we gonna start up some rumours. As much as I’d like to see a new Wintersleep or Beach House album surface up, there has been simply no evidence to say otherwise. Well…not yet, anyway. That being said, I’ve devised a list of artists and albums to look forward to in the upcoming year…

(For Sure Albums, With Release Dates)

The Gay Nineties, Liberal Guilt EP
Release Date: January 27th, 2015

The Gay Nineties

This is a safe bet, seeing how it’s definitely coming out next week. The HAFILAX gang and I got to check out the band play live during their set at Halifax Pop Explosion last October, and we liked what we were listening to. They’re a band full of catchy hooks and charm. They also put on a memorable performance. Let’s hope their music translates well into their EP.

Purity Ring, Another Eternity
Release Date: March 3rd, 2015

Purity Ring

This is the follow up to my favorite album of 2012, “Shrines”. That should mean that this is my most anticipated album of 2015, but I’m having mixed feelings. I really enjoyed the magnitude of the sound, and the dark mysteriousness of their previous album. And judging by their first song, “Push Pull” on the new album, it feels a little generic, almost as if the song had been made for a movie soundtrack.

But with their latest single, “Being Again”, I think they are going in the right direction. We might have a “Shrines Pt.2” on our hands, but I’m looking forward to what surprises we’ll find on their latest, “Another Eternity”, which comes out in a couple months.

(Albums, Currently In The Making)

Grimes, To Be Announced

Despite teasing us with this outrageous video for “Go” featuring Blood Diamonds, in this Harlem-Shake-esque song…that, I might add, really grew on me…I’m really looking forward to a follow up of 2012’s “Visions”. Claire Elise Boucher, the “Clark Kent” of Grimes, is quite entertaining for her playful and whimsical talents in song. I don’t think there is a chance she’s giving that up.

Metz, To Be Announced

I can’t think of anything that the band Metz puts out that’s sub-par. Their last self-titled album really ripped out of a cage like a hungry wolverine, and their Dirty Shirt EP just kept the rampage of their sound going. This is the band I look to, when listening to ass-kicking noise rock. If anything, their latest album looks to me, to be the most promising of all the albums to come out this year.
