Catchy title, right!  This topic came up one evening while I was sitting on my couch, enjoying a cold beverage while discussing with Trevor the credibility (or lack thereof) of Canada’s own Nickelback.  As we all know, there is a massive distaste for these Albertan rockers and a simple google search will prove this statement to be true.

I won’t go into the reasoning as to why I don’t enjoy listening to Nickelback’s music (we’ll save that for a later day) but I’ll tell you that during this discussion with Trevor I came up with an idea which led directly to this piece.  The question I proposed was, “is there another band out there, that is so horrible, you’d rather listen to Nickelback”?

Of course the answer is yes, but providing a band that bad proved to be more difficult than expected. Acid-jazz bands were talked about, boy bands that broke during the 90’s came into the discussion and we even somehow landed on this gem.  But after sitting down and listening to the proposed “worse than” bands it seemed as if I always ended up going back to Nickelback being the worst. (For the record, Trev is not a Nickelback hater but please do not hold that against him…..he’s pretty harmless.)

Now here we find ourselves, about a month out since that dreaded discussion took place, and I’ve finally found an artist that is so cringeworthy (I can’t believe I’m about to say this) I’d rather listen to Nickelback.

The guilty band is none other than Die Antwoord and the song is Ugly Boy.  Feel free to listen to the way this duo are somehow able to make fingernails on a chalkboard sound pleasurable, but take it from me and don’t spend too much time listening, as you’re better off suffering through this heaping pile of musical trash.
