Hafilax Does HPX: Day Five Preview featuring: Danny Brown, Chad VanGaalen & Mounties & more…

The past couple days of Halifax Pop Explosion have been a blast. I had the opportunity on day one to check out Petra Glynt bang her drums, in what was an amazing instrumental/vocal performance. Her music is something I wouldn’t normally go for, but I was totally blown away. Austra was also pretty awesome, I just love to see a band so artistic & original, and at the same time they were able to bring the crowd into a frenzy, it was really something special.

On day two, I also got to check out the Kestrels & Soft Spot rip apart the CKDU lobby, Coyote & Glory Glory bring this amazing jam vibe to Olympic Community Hall, and a string of local Halifax hip-hop artists such as Cam Smith & Mike Boyd bring the house down at Reflections.

It’s been an excellent experience so far, and with 3 days of Halifax Pop Explosion to go, there’s so many artists/bands to see. Here’s a preview of what’s happening on Day Five of the festival…

EVOLVE PRESENTS: DANNY BROWN, RYAN HEMSWORTH, TENNYSON AND WEIRDO CLICK
Saturday, October 25 – 7:00pm Multi-Purpose Centre

With his fairly recent release of his latest album, Old (2013), Danny Brown likes to blend a variety of different styles of rap, hip-hop, and dubstep into his music. He’s been getting quite a lot of plays on my music player, he would be very hard to pass up at Halifax Pop Explosion. Of course he’s one crazy badass mofo that will surely get the crowd going the night he plays at the Halifax Forum Multipurpose Room.

HPX PRESENTS: CHAD VANGAALEN, SECRET GUEST, BRY WEBB AND PS I LOVE YOU
Saturday, October 25 – 8:00pm Olympic Community Hall

Chad VanGaalen, this was taken off of the Halifax Pop Explosion website, and pretty much sums this artist up, in no better way….

“Many of us are already making arrangements to relocate to Chad VanGaalen’s universe. The world as we know it seems to be disintegrating by the minute, so any hint of a means of escape has serious currency. Over the last ten to fifteen years, CVG has been producing living maps in songs, drawings, modified instruments, animations and performances–shifting forms pointing to another world, infinitely more liveable, maybe hidden just under the surface of our own”.

MUSIC EXPORT CANADA PRESENTS: CANADIAN BLAST W/ MOUNTIES, AIN’T NO LOVE, DAGAN HARDING AND MOLLY THOMASON (CO-PRESENTED BY MUSICONTARIO)
Saturday, October 25 – 9:00pm Reflections Cabaret

What do you get when you combine singer-songwriter Hawksley Workman, Steve Bays of Hot Hot Heat and Ryan Dahle of Limblifter? You get the nation’s next indie-rock supergroup, Mounties. Unlike many supergroups, they are definitely here to stay. Just listen to their latest release, Thrash Rock Legacy, an upbeat collection of songs, that has these musical veterans sounding fresh, eccentric and energetic. Kinda like an old dog, showing off his new tricks.
