Friday Night Soundtrack – Feb. 21st, 2014

One of the best and worst things you can get lost in is the Youtube rabbit hole.  Hours can pass by before you even understand what’s happening you’ve got videos of Kid n Play streaming on your monitor (well maybe not Kid n Play, but def. Vanilla Ice).

But sometimes you’ll stumble upon a song or an artist that you never would have heard of if it wasn’t for the rabbit hole.  What I’ve come to discover is that there are some pretty awesome Youtube stations out there that play a shit-ton of awesome music.  Two main ones pop into my head and they are Audio Tree TV and KEXP.  I also have to admit that I have a friend who likes to venture into the Youtube land and often will drop random videos in my inbox.

This weeks FNS is brought to you by those awesome stations that play awesome music awesomely (ya I just did that).

1 – Shakey Graves – Roll The Bones

Such an awesome stripped down song.  Hes got a super cool voice, vibe and all around feel on the guitar.  Two super big thumbs up.

2 – The Ballroom Thieves – Archers

As put to me…”if you like that acoustic Lumineers type sound you’ll dig these guys.”  Without a doubt, I stand 100% that statement.

3 – The Head and the Heart – Ghosts

This is just a fun song.  It’s got a great feel and that old time piano feel is pretty cool.  I also love how the verses seem a little more on the dark side of things but it opens right up at the chorus.

4 – Foals – My Number

This is a great stripped down version that you might have heard spinning on local radio stations.

5 – Jonsi – Boy Lilikoi

One artist that doesn’t get the love he should.  It might take you a listen or two before it digs in and sticks with you but once it does you’ll be happy about it.
