FRIDAY NIGHT SOUNDTRACK – JAN. 31st, 2014

calvin-and-hobbesLast week, Jeff lamented over the snow and the abundance that we have had this winter (which by all accounts feels more like a traditional winter which we experienced when we were kids), but let’s try to look at things a bit more optimistically as Sunday is Groundhog Day (not to mention Superbowl Sunday) so hopefully the little rodent will not see his shadow and we can start the 6 week countdown to more balmy spring like weather.  Either way, we still have a great deal of winter’s wrath left to go, and I know I’m looking forward to a little road trip in the early summer to Bangor to catch Dave Matthews and Co.

So for this week, I’m going to slide in here and take over the Friday Night Soundtrack as it will be something of a companion piece to Jeff’s last FNS which focused on his key Dave Matthews Band tunes from the early years.  This will be the FNS focusing on the more recent material such as GrooGrux King, Away from the World, Everyday, Stand Up and a couple of others.   I hope you enjoy these tunes as much as I have.  Let’s go exploring!

1. “Shake Me Like a Monkey” – Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King – 2009

2.  “Steady As We Go” – Stand Up – 2005

3. “Grey Street” – Busted Stuff – 2002 // Lillywhite Sessions 1999/2000

4. “Drunken Soldier” – Away from the World – 2012

5. “Mercy” – Away from the World – 2012

If you haven’t had a chance to see the Dave Matthews Band live, you should definitely make it a point to check them out at least once.  This will be my third show and my wife’s second, not to mention they are breaking the show into an acoustic set and an electric set.  Should be a great tour this year, I personally can’t wait (I’ve been stalking the Warehouse site to find out if we scored tickets in the lottery).
