30 Day Facebook Challenge (Justin’s) – Day 1 – Favorite Catchy Song

I thought I’d take the initiative to start a brand new run at the 30 Day Facebook Challenge. Despite some of the awesome written posts you’ll find on the site, this one remains as one of my favorites. It’s like an open window into the writer’s music library, in the form of a song challenge. For me, it’s less of a challenge, and more of an expression of “check this out, you don’t know what you’re missing”!, or a reminder of some really good music. So without further hesitation, here’s DAY ONE of the challenge !!!!!!!!1

My pick for favorite catchy song is Nirvana’s “Plateau”. The song was originally created by the Meat Puppets, but Nirvana did a great job in covering the song at the intimate “Unplugged in New York” session back in the early ’90s. What makes this song so catchy, is the constant jumps between one chord to another, and Kurt Cobain’s subtle take in singing the lyrics. One of my favorite lines in the song is when the chorus picks up, and Kurt sings…

“nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
You see a lot up there but don’t be scared
Who needs action when you got words”

To end the song, the acoustic guitar breaks into a nice, relaxing solo. Finishing off with a pleasant chant from the crowd, to transition on to the next song.
