30 Day Facebook Challenge (Jeff Edition) – Day 15 – Favourite Solo/Instrumental

After a couple of lack-luster days, it appears we’re back on track at the half way point. There have been so many fantastic instrumentals over the years, that it’s hard to pinpoint my favourite. You’ve got classic artists like Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers, The Ventures, ELO, Santana, all with

amazing lyric lacking songs, and let’s not forget about the amazing DJ’s that have been creeping up over the past 10 years. Even though all of those artists listed, and those who aren’t, are great I’m going to stick close to home with my pick.

The Jimmy Swift Band was formed in 1999, and based themselves out of Halifax, NS. Known for an electronic fused rock sound that would lead to epic, experimental, psychedelic jams, JSB would spend the next 12 years performing shows non-stop across North America.

The list of jams that JSB put out over the years is massive, but the one which stands out to me is When Worlds Collide. Usually clocking in around 9 minutes, this track is the perfect example of what you would expect at a Jimmy Swift show. Even though all members of the band are filled with talent, the highlight in this song has to be Mike MacDougall’s bass playing…..or as we called it….the driving of the bus.

When the band decided to call it quits in 2011, I had roughly 25+ live shows under my belt and would have to say that 90% of them were jamtastic. To this day, JSB still hold a spot in my musical world, and this song has never left regular rotation.
