NY Song #6

U2 – Angel of Harlem

After the Joshua Tree was released U2 stood on top of the music industry. Becoming fully aware of where they stood within the realm of the music world, the arrogance of U2 skyrocketed to an entire new level. The release of Rattle and Hum would prove to be a financial success, but critically the album took some hits. Bono and co. channeled their inner “rock n roll” and were able to churn out hits such as Desire, All I Want Is You and this tale of concurring New York, Angel of Harlem. Landing at JFK and proclaiming “tonight this city belongs to me” U2 wrote a brilliant honouring both Billie Holiday and The City of Angels.

With Bono’s distinct voice, Edge’s simple yet perfect chord progressions, and one of the most solid backing duos in the history of rock n roll, U2 once again proved that they could churn out a hit as well as anyone else.
