The Origin Story and the Inspiration to Keep At It….

There’s probably another post in the History that speaks to this a little bit, but I’ve been on a writing kick lately and thought this might be a good time to talk a little about the Origin Story of Hafilax. It was well intended, and conceived justoutofdesignschool by two (maybe idealistic) grads (thanks Justin – see his work over at Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/earthskync/) – but the site started out as something far different initially. Itwasoriginally a site that was intended to bring you the local concert news (after I almost missed a poorly advertised Watchmen show). It was less a blog format, and more a crudely constructed (but diligently updated) table of concert dates that did not update dynamically and pre-dated both Twitter and Facebook by a couple of years. It was well intended, but quickly became less and less enjoyable and it fell by the way side a couple of time, It’s undergone a couple of overhauls and updates, but the basic theme of Hafilax being a music site has remained intact. It has quickly become the home for my reviews that I’ve written for www.thecoast.ca over the past decade, in addition to some of my occasional musings (which have become more frequent after the birth of my daughter), and thinking about the numerous media formats that have come and gone in my lifetime. The impetus of this return goes to Chris Hardwick and the Nerdist podcast, I’ve been listening to it for a few months now and the message is pretty clear on not wasting the time we have to create with, on more sedentary activities (I’m looking at you Xbox). It made sense to me, this site has always been sometime I’ve felt strongly about, but didn’t really have a set point of view other than music, so we’re going to go with that for now . I hope to eventually incorporate my love of Video Games, and media into the site also, but that’s a little ways down the road. I’m not looking to get picked up by Legendary Productions or anything of the sort, so we’ll start here and see where we end up. I simply want to get my voice out in the world on a larger scale (my friends will only accept so many music recommendations, so I’m taking my recommendations to the world). In closing, Welcome to the Flip-Side that is HAFILAX.COM and enjoy the site.
