Mike Trask, Jamboree, Indie

Bearly’s mainstay Mike Trask opted to step away from his usual partners in crime Mudhill to record his solo-debut Jamboree. For this album he opted to strip away everything, to create an album with DIY appeal. While this is a passion project (see the handmade packaging), one has to wonder if this would be better served as an LP (complete with hiss and pop) as the digital transition robs the recording of some of its warmth in its cleanliness. Jamboree was recorded on a 1958 reel-to-reel, capturing the raw essence of Trask’s gruffly distinctive voice and the 12 heartfelt tracks contained within.
