Big Sugar w/ Wide Mouth Mason @ The New Palace, Nov. 25/2011

Having reunited with Gary Lowe and Kelly “Mr. Chil” Hoppe back in 2010, Gordie Johnson and Big Sugar (finally!) made a triumphant return to Halifax on Friday night. The set-list consisted of a heavy quotient from Revolutions Per Minute (“Roads Ahead”, “Little Bit a All Right”), but all the staples (“Diggin’ a Hole”, “All Hell for a Basement”) were on tap as well. Big Sugar closed out the night with a scintillating version of “The Scene” that took a funky detour by way of James Brown’s “Sex Machine”. Hopefully the band won’t take another 6 years to return.
