Manchester Orchestra, Simple Math, Sony Music

Manchester Orchestra’s latest album Simple Math is not one that is instantly accessible. This is an album that requires afew spins to truly appreciate the nuances. Upon wading into the disc, tracks such as “Pensacola” and lead-single “April Fools”will appear to be the sore thumbs of the disc (which they are). The first half of the album is ambitious yet uneven and once “Pale Black Eye” comes on, so does the cohesion of the back end of the record. It’s here that the title-track steals the show “Simple Math” will haunt you long after the album has run its course.
