OneRepublic, Dreaming Out Loud, Interscope

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you’ve heard the Timbaland remix of OneRepublic’s “Apologize” in some form. It may not be a groundbreaking single, however it was certainly a breakthrough one for the band. OneRepublic’s front-man Ryan Tedder had previously worked for Timbaland as a producer in the early 2000’s, but after it was the inclusion on Tim’s Shock Value which truly put the band on the top 40 map and in November of 2007, Dreaming Out Loud was released. Their brand of radio friendly pop-rock, finds its sound wedged firmly between the folk-pop stylings of Train and the ethereal-emotive tone of Coldplay. This album could have been another disposable top 40 effort headed straight for the one-hit wonder pile, instead Dreaming Out Loud is a better album than most would have given it credit for being.
