Recommended: a blog and short film

I have the good fortune of being part of a community of film lovers and filmmakers here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I just wanted to take a minute to give a shout out to a couple of those.

Dave Howlett has written for Flaw in the Iris. His specialty is horror movies. He’s got a great and incisive way with words, and while he and I don’t always see eye-to-eye on everything, I have big respect for his insight. Plus, as anyone who reads FITI regularly can attest, I don’t see a lot of horror movies, so his reviews are both interesting and educational for me. Here are his thoughts on the new Near Dark Blu-ray at his own blog, House of Haunts.

Luckas Cardona is a local writer and director. His awesome short Daddy’s Little Girl gets to the core of some truly uncomfortable family comedy, anchored by the always delightful Evany Rosen of Picnicface fame. Go and check it out on YouTube.
