Filmmaking in Nova Scotia: Chaz Thorne and Whirligig

I haven’t been able to post as often as I’d like on this blog lately due to a variety of real-world responsibilities, including this cover story for The Coast, about a Halifax-based filmmaker Chaz Thorne, his new feature Whirligig, and his struggles to make movies here in Nova Scotia.

This piece took two years to complete and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out,
though I could have easily added another 1,000 words to its length. Longer pieces are harder to get printed these days as newspapers shrink. I just heard today that Toronto’s eye magazine is shutting down, which is very sad. I really liked that mag.
