Andre’s Pizza – New Glasgow

On a recent trip to New Glasgow we stopped in for dinner at Andre’s. Andre’s serves up pizza and other homestyle meals. The exterior looks like any pizza joint in pictou county, but inside, the shop is decked out with old records, a colourful jukebox, and a dessert display area chocked full of cheese cakes and other goodies. We had the good fortune of visiting on $4 caesar night, a great start to the meal.

@DrewMooreNS is not a caesar drinker, and found the beer selection lacking, especially for darker brew. In fairness to Andre’s, Drew is a self-described beer snob. Still, more local and varied beer can never hurt.

Though he may not have been impressed with the beer selection, he was happy to dig into their sizable lasagna, a huge portion.  I had honey garlic short ribs with sweet potato fries. The ribs were tender, an had a good taste, but there was too much honey garlic sauce. The sweet potato fries were awesome, as were the side of veggies in what can only be described as a pool of butter – delicious if not a little unhealthy. Our dinner guest opted for a pasta which she deemed good but cold.

All-in-all it was  a decent meal for a fair price. The atmosphere was relaxing and not too loud. It would be a great place to have a caesar and catch up with friends or family.

They also serve Pictou County Pizza, a pizza unique to a few restaurants in Pictou County and one of the best pizzas in the world (no really, UPS ships it across Canada and there have been pizzas shipped as far as Greece). You can read all about Pictou County Pizza here.
