Last week, Halifax’s newest restaurant opened its doors in style with a huge grand opening party. Tempo (@tempofooddrink) fills the main floor of the Barrington & Duke corner of the Delta Barrington (@deltas_in_hfx), bringing to life this section of downtown.
The party was a local-lovers dream – Blomidon Wines, cocktails made with Ironworks liquors and local foods galore. The room was packed to the trendy exposed concrete rafters. In fact, the room was so full, it was hard to get a good look at the décor, but we liked what we saw.
Tempo is comprised of three areas, the bar, the dinner area and a café/take-away area. Most attendes for milling about the bar area so we slipped away from the crowd to get a look at the main dining area and the quick-service section. The quick service offers healthy food on-the-go.
The main dining area is mostly booth seating (my favourite), with a more modern layout and colours. From the dining room you can watch the staff prepare your meal (another favourite).
Drew tried a few of the pass-arounds. Most notable were the bacon cupcakes. They also offer a bacon sundae, something I’ll definitely be in to try, especially if November continues to stay this balmy. The menu is filled with other ‘comfort food’ items that chef Leslie Ann Hull has shaken up. There are maple bacon muffins, grilled lamb with jalepeno salsa, and a number of gluten free, vegan and other allergy sensitive options.
The restaurant is a welcome addition to Barrington Street, especially when we’ve seen so many stores leaving the area. We especially liked the large windows and comfy lounge chairs, perfect for a cocktail and some people watching. It really adds to the Barrington streetscape.
