The Friday Night Groove Soundtrack

Hello ladies and gentlemen, tonight I will be playing this week’s Friday Night Soundtrack. My name is Justin, and I will be taking you through some soulful tunes that will get your groove on. Tonight we will feature some shiny tracks by Blood Orange, Kendrick Lamar, Ariel Pink and some old favorites by Al Green and Sade. I’m gonna drop a couple beats to get your blood flowing, and than we’re gonna slow it down with some sweet smooth vibes. This soundtrack is for all of you couples out there, so grab your partner, cozy up on the couch and enjoy.

Blood Orange, “You’re Not Good Enough”

When I first saw the video for this song, I was having a flashback of Lionel Richie‘s “All Night Long”. The choreography is so cheesy, yet I’m so hypnotized when watching it. The lead singer Dev Hynes also makes good use of flowers since they are not only good to smell, but are good props when used as a microphone. And Samantha Urbani is supporting the Batman films, with her Harvey Dent, “Two-Face” jacket.

Kendrick Lamar, “These Walls”

Hey Ellen, I’ve been living under a rock all this time, who is this guy? Oh wait… he’s the man bringing back the funk. The torch has been passed down from George Clinton to Snoop Dogg, all the way to Kendrick Lamar. This is the track to make all rap hipsters weak in the knees. You might be focused on the dancers on this one, but look at the painter to the left, that dude is quick.

Al Green, “Let’s Stay Together”

I’m gonna slow it down with this classic tune from one of my favorite movies, Pulp Fiction. This song is from the scene when one of the characters, Butch (a boxer), played by none other then Bruce Willis, has to accept the fact that he’s getting older, and only has a few fights in him. It’s a classic scene from the movie.

Ariel Pink’s Grafitti, “Baby”

I’m gonna slow things down a little more with Ariel Pink‘s cover of Donnie & Joe Emerson‘s “Baby”. Pour your baby a little Disaronno on the rocks, this tune is nice and smooth.

Sade, “No Ordinary Love”

Oh yeah, I just had to go there with this track. Nothing says “turning up the heat” like a little Sade. This video was inspired by Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”. Of course it breaks some rules of the movie where Sade easily morphs into a human by slipping off her mermaid tail, without making a deal with her fairy godmother. In the end of the video she’s without her true love, and is left alone. Karma’s a bitch, that’s what happens when you don’t make a deal with the devil!

Anyway, I hope these tunes get you laid in the sack. For me, I’m gonna finish my Disaronno. Good night!
