Metric, Grow Up & Blow Away, Last Gang Recordings

There doesn’t seem to be much slowing down Emily Haines’ frenetic pace. After Metric’s debut album Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? Cracked the surface, it was its follow-up Live It Out whichbroke through and put Metric on the indie rock map.Opting to ride the indie-darling wave even further, Emily Haines put forth her solo-debut entitled Knives Don’t Have Your Back to critical and moderate commercial success. While touring her solo effort, Metric band mate Chris Taylor and his label Last Gang Recordings decided to dust off Metric’s intended debut album and finally showcase it for the world. As it turns out The decision to release Old World Underground in lieu of Grow Up & Blow Away appears to have been a wise one, as the ambient nature of this album fails to leave an indelible impression as Metric’s brief 10 track outing blends together into a pleasant yet forgettable album. GU&BA likely would not have garnered the same attention as Old World Underground.
