Maroon 5, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, J Records

Now that it’s clear that Maroon 5 doesn’t have a female lead singer (a popular misconception when Songs About Jane was released), Adam Levine and Company have returned with their sophomore release <em>It Won’t Be Soon Before Long. The old adage“if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” seems to be the mantra of the LA based 5-piece, the radio friendly sound is still drenched in r&b however on the lead single “Makes Me Wonder” (also known as an addictive guilty pleasure) introduces a refreshing splash of funk to the proceedings. Just as their debut churned out a plethora of hit singles, its predecessor won’t be any different with tracks such as “Won’t Go Home Without You”, “Little of Your Time” and “Wake Up Call” waiting in the wings to storm top 40 radio and deeply lodge themselves into your brain. While it’s not an album that’s bearable in its entirety, the singles will grow on you. Chalk this one up to a solid guilty pleasure, but it’s hardly a classic.
