In Cinemas: Friday, February 5, 2016 — Hitchcock/Truffaut, Boy And The World, Hail, Caesar! Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, The Choice, The Digital Film Festival

As I mentioned earlier this week, Carbon Arc Cinema has returned for its winter season, and I’m on board as the Writer-in-Residence.

On Friday night at 7pm (only tickets at the door) we’ve got the documentary Hitchcock/Truffaut, and on Saturday at 7pm and 9pm we’re showing the Oscar-nominated animation Boy And The World. For more info about the films and tickets, please visit the Carbon Arc website.

Oh, and a little more housekeeping: Flaw In The Iris is offering two pairs of tickets to a horror comedy opening next week, February 12, called Nina Forever. Go here for more details.

It’s always a good day when a new Coen Brothers film opens. Hail, Caesar! looks like it could be in line with either Barton Fink or The Hudsucker Proxy. I can’t wait.

I love the idea of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, the unholy union of Jane Austen and the undead. We’ll see if it delivers.

The one-man genre, like John Grisham or Tyler Perry, Nicholas Sparks movies are just something that happens, like winter. It’s inevitable, so you can either ignore it and just soldier on, or give in. I haven’t given in since The Notebook, but no judgement on those who do. Here’s The Choice.

Cineplex had brought back The Digital Film Festival, a week of action, fantasy, and science fiction films screening at Park Lane. I love a lot of what they’ve got on offer, though I sometimes wish they’d bring in a few more cult pictures, a few more obscure titles. That said, I’m excited about Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior back on the big screen, True Romance, Inception, and especially Runaway Train. Check out the cinema listings in the box to the right, Park Lane.
